Eleanor Waight

Eleanor Waight describes her work as a visual exploration of mark-making and colour. She is interested in the way colours interact to create depth, layers and contrast. She uses acrylic paint and goache as well as ink, and experiments with collage, weaving shapes and colours together.

Eleanor identifies as an emerging as an artist with a disability. She says that recognising her need for creativity has been liberating for her.

“Realising that I can make art with my disability has helped me to become the person I want to be,” she says. “This means I am continuing to explore all aspects of these media, developing my confidence using a range of techniques, including experimenting with different marks, including pouring, washes, printing, scraping and blotting.”

Eleanor has exhibited through the Ignite 7 program, which has enabled her to present her work to a wider audience, and build her confidence as an artist. She describes her association with the Belconnen Arts Centre as supportive and collaborative.

Eleanor holds a Certificate IV in Visual Arts from Canberra Institute of Technology (2016).  Her final works for the graduating exhibition were the result of a thorough investigation of abstract art combined with screen printing, resulting in a series of 4 prints on plywood.

She is currently studying a Diploma in Visual Arts.
